If you Ubuntu won’t on GNOME Desktop, type startx.

A dialog appears with an error message: OAFIID:GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet

Try run the following command:

sudo aptitude install gnome-applets
sudo aptitude install fast-user-switch-applet
